Webster’s defines equality as the quality or state of being equal.
When it comes to equality, I believe in equal pay for equal work. I believe if you are capable of a job, it should not matter what your gender, age, or hereditary. (I refuse to call it race, because we are ALL part of the HUMAN RACE, each with different heritages.) Pay should be based solely upon capability, skill level and experience. I believe in equal rights for all legal citizens and the freedom to live their lives the way they see fit, so long as to not cause harm to another nor impede upon another’s freedom to do the same.
With that said, when it comes to equality between men and women, it simply does not exist. Not in plants, not in animals, AND NOT IN HUMANS. We were never meant to be equal. Men are physically, genetically stronger than women. But, women can endure more pain for longer. Not equal. Men are instinctually programmed to protect, provide and procreate. Women are programmed to nurture. Again, not equal. How about emotionally? Intellectually? Nope, not equal there, either.
The truth is, this narrative must change. It’s not equality we need, it’s balance. It’s respect for the strengths AND weaknesses of the opposite sex. It’s understanding that we each have a role to play and to try to take on the other’s role is to negate their very purpose. I believe we’ve spent too much energy on the division of the sexes and not enough on the unity of them. Do we see the moon as less important than the sun, because it’s smaller? Because it’s not a giant ball of fire? No. We know it affects our planet just as much as the sun. And without it, life would not be possible. They are in perfect balance, a perfect dance, to create a spark that becomes life. And so it is with the sexes, a perfect balance, a perfect dance, in harmony, each a compliment to the other.
